I was talking to a friend the other day. She's a brilliant writer. Author of several books. And her work is always a pleasure to read

And she said something like, “Why should I pay a marketer to do things that I can do myself?”

That's a very good question. And it has its own wisdom. Especially when most of the “marketers” out there don't know the first thing about marketing.

It's easy to call yourself a marketer these days. Just put up a Facebook page, post some cool-sounding quotes, force friends and family to Like your posts, buy a few fake followers, and there you go!

You can post then convince “clients” you can post better than them, and boost better than them. And voila, you're getting paid! And you can always show them more likes and more followers.

Sounds like a scam to me. And I learnt this the hard way. After getting scammed like that. “See, your were trending on Twitter for 15 whole minutes!”

Seriously!? That's what I paid you for?

Heck, I have a degree in marketing! And yet, I had to teach myself from scratch because of those dirty slimey leeches masquerading as marketers.

Either way, it's usually not a good idea to hire a “marketer”, unless you're 120% sure they know what they're doing.

So my friend had the right idea. Do your own marketing and promotion. Your personality is your greatest asset, and no marketer can do it for you. No marketer you can afford, anyway.

So do your own marketing. But there has to be a method to your madness.

I'll be covering a lot of this subject in the upcoming issues of Dastaan World Magazine. Because it's a matter of survival. I've seen too many of my friends quit their art, writing, and publishing careers cuz they couldn't sustain it.

People have literally switched to retail jobs to put food on the table. And that's just sad.

So hold on tight. Keep creating. And keep promoting. But do it right.

Let me know what do you want me to help you with in this new incarnation of Dastaan World Magazine.

To your success,

Shakaib Feroz.
