Many years ago, I was involved in a startup that had built a cricket game with one of the best-known cricketers in the world. We were excited, and we wanted to share the game with the world. So we did a press conference with our celebrity cricketer announcing the game, and we hired a “top-rated on Googles” social media agency to spread the word too! What could go wrong!?

Turns out the news reporters give absolutely zero fucks about what you have to say. They are only looking to extract some hot pieces of gossip out of you. So they ignored everything about this awesome new mobile game, and just kept trying to get comments on the humiliating defeat the local cricket team had recently suffered.

Luckily, our dude was experienced in these PR games and understood the psychology of those news reporters. He wove the mobile game into the gossip they were looking for. “The local team should download my new game into their phones and use it to practice their skills.” So he did succeed in getting the game mentioned in the mainstream news. (Write this down somewhere if you ever plan to use PR for selling your books or anything else.)

After the press conference, the social media agency guys came up to us and proudly announced that our game had been “trending on Twitter for a full 10 minutes”, or something equally ridiculous like that. I was shocked. We had exhausted almost all of our marketing budget on these 10-minutes-of-fame that didn’t bring us a single new user! But we couldn’t do anything now, as we had signed up for this stupidity. Lesson learnt! (Write this down too.)

This was one of the events that drove me to figure out how to make marketing and promotion really work. Because I did not want to get scammed by these “Twitter bros” and their kind again.

So I went on with my quest. And this is what I found out: Social media does not have to be a headache. And no, it’s not about the likes, comments and shares. ”Trending” doesn’t put money in your pocket.

Your social media has got to be about your customers, your relationships, and your bottom line.

And it takes more than just social media to pull that off. But those peddlers out there would never tell you this.

But I will.

I will tell you exactly how it is. So I f you wanna dial your marketing to the right level, send me a message right now, and we’ll get on a quick call. No obligations, no pressure. Just a brief chit chat to see if I can help you. And maybe even save you from those dirty, slimey social media leeches out there.

Let’s talk.
