I just received a message from a subscriber, almost scolding me for not writing the emails lately. Guilty as charged!
I've been super occupied with GITEX this whole week. It's basically one of the largest tech exhibitions in the world. Now, I'm not technically a tech person. But, following the admonishment of the late, great “Gary Halbert”, I am a student of markets.
And everytime I visit a “marketplace” like GITEX of 1 Billion Summit, I'm reminded of how disconnected the biz world has become from the fundamentals of marketing and salesmanship.
Vague, cool-sounding taglines that mean nothing; fluff buried under buzzwords; the works.
And when you start speaking with the founders or the teams, you discover they have created something beautiful. But it doesn't show in their marketing. And that means they are losing a bunch of audience and clients.
Their marketing had become anti-marketing.
And most of them do not even understand they have a problem. Which is why I don't work with everyone. I look for cues when talking to people. If their eyes light up at certain thoughts and ideas, I know they are my people and are open to change and transformation.
Most people don't get it. And that's ok. I only want people who get it. People who understand the importance of crafting the right story and putting it across to the right people.
GITEX is on for a couple more days. I’ll try and not disappear.
Meanwhile, think about how many more ways you can put up yourself and your story in front of your own tribe.
I'll catch you soon with more updates.
Shakaib Feroz.
P.S. Yes I just crowned myself The Email Jedi. That's how we roll. Though most of us relate more with the Sith, thanks to Anakin Skywalker who walked both sides of the fence.
P.P.S. And here's the Dastaan World Magazine bundle before it disappears.
