Is This The Great Depression All Over Again?
Dear ,It might be an uncomfortable observation, but this century seems to be echoing the 20th century. The last century pretty much began with the First World War. This century also began with conflicts and wars all over the world. (9/11 etc.) Then came the 1918 Flu Pandemic in the 20th century. And currently, we have the COVID-19 Pandemic that broke out in … 2019! Scary as it already is, the thing that followed the Flu Pandemic of 1918 was … shudders … The Great Depression. The worst economic depression our world has ever seen. People carrying huge bags of money to go buy a loaf of bread. And killing each other for it. Depressing! We can only hope this current global recession is not headed in that direction. But this is where it gets interesting, . Two important things came out after The Great Depression of the 1920s and ’30s. And they both reshaped the world like never before. One of them was the Second World War, with all of its unimaginable horrors. The other was a lot more subtle. A lot smaller. But it had a disproportionate level of impact on the world. HUGE! It was a book that has reportedly created uncountable millionaires - from scratch - since it was first published in 1937. Regardless of economic cycles, industries, and professions. It created such enormous amounts of wealth in America (and the world) that The Great Depression started feeling more like a bad dream. Testimonials and praises flooded in.Here are some of the influential people who recommended this book:
Former President Woodrow Wilson, who said he’s impressed by the lessons in this book.
The founder of Kodak (camera guys), said these lessons are priceless.
The founder of Wrigley’s (the chewing gum guys), who credited this book for all his success.
Bruce Lee wrote a letter to himself in 1969 that was nearly word-for-word dictated by this book. The book recommends writing this pledge to yourself and tells you how to achieve it. Bruce Lee wrote this letter in 1969, pledging to achieve fame, popularity and 10 million dollars within the next ten years. Four years later, he was dead. But only after achieving all the goals he had written down in that brief letter!
Bill Gates admires this book. And has recommended it in his blog posts and elsewhere.
This book graces the work desks and bookshelves of the most respected businessmen, entrepreneurs, and marketers of the world.
And, needless to say, it graces my bookshelf too. It’s sitting right here by my side as I type this email. This is one of those books I keep buying over and over as my older copies get increasingly dog-eared, worn out from use, or lost after I lend them to my friends. A lot of writers and artists have been asking me about marketing advice these days. Especially since this lockdown has thrown everything we knew about our world out of whack. These questions are expected when you’re a serial entrepreneur who’s been going against the tide for more than 11 years. And especially at a time when your fellow creatives wake up to the fact that they have spent several years honing their craft and getting good. And yet, their masterpieces are as helpless as themselves in the face of piling bills. It seems like the 2008 recession never really ended.Throw in the lockdown, fears of impending medical expenses (God forbid), and the haunting memories of everything we’ve read and heard about The Great Depression. So this is my answer to all those questions. The first step. To get our minds aligned to the so-called “Principles of Success”.And what better place to start off than the bible of the rich and the successful? Think And Grow Rich! Honestly , I have seen no group of people more hardworking than the passionate writers and artists I see around myself. You deserve so much more and so much better.
