I caught myself thinking something strange this week.
Most of my free-writes aren’t about work. Or even most of my emails, for that matter.
They’re about identity. Art. Story. Philosophy. Family. Faith. Neville (and other mentors). The subconscious and its games. Life in Dubai. Dreams (both real and metaphorical).
Basically, anything but work.
And hence, the nagging voice of the Inner Critic, “you’d better get back to work!”
Or, in a more passive-aggressive tone:
“Maybe that’s why you’re not as prolific as you should be.”
But then another voice stepped in:
What if the real work is the thinking behind the work?
What if the books, the questions, the buried ideas are the business?
What if Leonardo’s notebooks were the product?
Oooohhhhhhhh, now we are talking!
I’m beginning to suspect that my content doesn’t need to be about just marketing.
To borrow from one of my heroes (I think it was Gary Halbert), I’m in the business of being Shakaib Feroz.
And that includes everything that shapes my perspective. The things I’m learning, unlearning, and relearning every day.
So I’m going to start sharing more of that.
More of the inner architecture behind the outputs.
Maybe this resonates. Maybe not.
Either way, this is another nuance in the Work-Life Integration dance that I keep harping about.
Live out loud,
Shakaib Feroz
P.S. Meanwhile, the to-do list is handed over to the subconscious mind. It will be taken care of.
