There's a chapter called “The ROI on Reading” in Steven Kotler’s book, “They Art of Impossible”.
It talks about the “return on investment” you get from reading. And this return, according to him, is much higher on books than on blogs or articles. You can get as much as 15 years of an author's life experience, study and research condensed into a book that you can read in as much as 5 hours. That's insane!
Since reading this chapter, I've started looking at the world a lot in terms of the “ROI on whatever I'm doing right now”.
And building Dastaan World, having been through the crises pushing through them, deciding not to quit, it has taught me to see everything I do as an investment. It could be an investment of time, energy or money. And believe me, I've invested tons of it all, behind the scenes, over the past few years into Dastaan World.
So I'm gonna make sure Dastaan World ain't going anywhere. And you know what's my great investment has been? It's been this relationship I have with you. Because without you on my side, there would be no Dastaan World. That's why I try to write to you and talk to you almost everyday.
Anyway, so back to Steven Kotler's chapter. He ends the chapter with a little story from his childhood. He used to frequent a magic shop, which was like a a long, narrow tunnel. The right wall was all windows, and the left wall was all the cool gadgets of magic. The back wall, which was the first thing you noticed when you entered the shop, was all books. So he once asked the shop owner why he didn't put the books somewhere else, and put the shiny stuff on this central wall.
Guess what the owner said. “Books are where they keep the secrets.”
This line made a thousand light bulbs go on in my mind. Books are where they keep the secrets. That's so freaking true! It’s one of those ideas that you get pissed off thinking why didn't you come up with it first.
Anyway, here endeth the story.
If you'd like to get you hands on the secrets 23 of the world’s finest authors are keeping, I invite you to grab a copy of Discordia here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09L9W8JKY/
Jeff Luthor of Amazon is hellbent on giving it away for peanuts without my approval. The paperback is currently listed at $2.37, ugh! That's an outrageous 87% discount!
Leave a good review, at least, even if Amazon doesn't want me to get rich selling paperbacks.
I love you too,
Shakaib Feroz.
